The i3S Laboratory

Presentation

The i3S laboratory (Laboratoire d’Informatique, Signaux et Systèmes de Sophia Antipolis) was officially founded in 1989, as the merging of two units : LISAN and LASSY. i3S is a joint research unit (UMR 7271) from CNRS and Université Côte d’Azur (UCA). The Inria UCA Center (Centre Inria d’Université Côte d’Azur) has 5 joint team-projects (EPCs) with i3S.

i3S is one of the biggest units of UCA. As our research activity focuses on digital sciences, we are located at the heart of the technopole of Sophia Antipolis, one of the largest in Europe.

The unit is compossed of around 300 agents, including 80 faculties coming from three different teaching Components of UCA (Polytech Nice-Sophia, EUR DS4H, IUT Côte d'Azur), 20 full-time researchers affiliated with CNRS and 10 affiliated with Inria. It also counts around 18 administrative and support staff. Among the non-permanent members, we have around 100 PhD students, 25 non-permanent research staff and 60 interns from Master programs or Engineering schools.

i3S is affiliated to CNRS Informatics, and covers a wide spectrum of research activities including Computer Sciences, Electrical Engineering, Signal and Image Processing, Control and Robotics, spanning the research domains of sections 27 and 61 of CNU (Conseil National des Universités), as well as sections 6 and 7 of CoNRS.

i3S is structured into 4 divisions: COMRED, MDSC, SIS, SPARKS, which include 5 EPCs with Inria: Coati, Kairos, Maasai, Morpheme and Wimmics.
